Semiotics

To apply semiotics into my own work I will have the dominant image a certain size in order to grab the reader's attention and to show that the main double-page spread is about that person. The price will be low in order to attract a wider and/or younger audience. The dominant image will also be partially covering the masthead in order to show that the magazine is well-known. The coverlines will be smaller than the main sell-line and will be set away from the dominant image to show that they are not associated with that image. The colours will be quite dark and the font will be distorted/destroyed in order to show that the magazine will cover metal/alternative musicians.

Facial Expressions

Powered by emaze Powered by emaze

Based on my research of facial expressions and the ones typically used in rock and metal magazines, I have decided that the ones most suitable for my magazine are chocolate box (as my model is female), invitational, comic and aggressive.

Font and Colour

I chose these types of fonts because they are distorted and edgy. This matches the genre of music and appeals to the target audience. They are also pleasing to look at, easy to read and are not commonly used in other magazines, making my magazine unique and different.

The colours I've chosen are varying shades of black and grey, which are dark colours. These colours are commonly used in rock and metal magazines, so they are successful with the target audience. The colours I've chosen for the text are colours like red and white. This makes the text be easy to read and stand out, yet still stay within the dark colour scheme.

Photoshoot Planning

I want my reader to be intrigued by interested in my model. The background will most likely be darker, so it would match the genre of music I am covering and therefore appeal to the target audience.

I am going to use my friend Staci as a model and photograph her myself in Barnes Park.

I do not require any props.

The background will be quite dark to make the model stand out more and to match the genre of music, so it will appeal to the target audience. If this is not achieved on the photoshoot then I will edit it on Photoshop.

I have briefed my model and told her where the photoshoot will taking place and what time.

I will only be using natural lighting, as the photoshoot will take place outside. There is no other equipment I require.

My photoshoot will take place in Barnes Park. The background will foliage, trees and bushes.

I have advised my model to wear her hair down and wear eyeliner. I have also asked her to wear a leather jacket, a band t-shirt and a certain pair of shoes.

This is the weather report for Wednesday, which is the day I plan to do my photoshoot.

This is my model agreeing to meet up at the location.
